There are plenty of ways to expand an action RPG, but CODE VEIN II is taking a rather unusual route. The Mask of Idris DLC sends players beyond the events of the main adventure and into the Forsaken World, a strange realm born from timelines that were erased from history.

Available now on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC, Mask of Idris introduces a new adventure, new companions, powerful equipment and another opportunity to get lost in CODE VEIN II’s ever-changing world.

At A Glance

  • DLC: CODE VEIN II: Mask of Idris
  • Price: Standalone purchase available; also included with Deluxe and Ultimate Editions
  • Platforms: Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PC
  • New setting: The Forsaken World
  • New companions: Liv Voda and Lou MagMell
  • New additions: Weapons, formae and Blood Codes

Step Into The Forsaken World

Mask of Idris tells a story separate from the main campaign, taking Revenant Hunters into the temporal rifts and towards a world that should no longer exist.

The Forsaken World is made up of the remnants of countless timelines erased by changes to history. At its centre sits a huge, swirling spindle formed from the emotions and passions of those lost worlds, drawing them together across time and space.

Naturally, something that sounds this ominous isn’t exactly going to leave the main world alone.

Players will need to explore this unfamiliar territory, uncover its hidden history and deal with a collection of new threats along the way. New weapons, formae and Blood Codes provide additional tools for tackling whatever awaits beyond the rift.

Two New Faces Join The Adventure

The expansion also brings two new characters into the story.

Liv Voda serves as the overseer of the temporal rifts, while Lou MagMell is a girl who lives within the Forsaken World. Both offer new storylines and companionship as players push deeper into the expansion.

It’s another chance for CODE VEIN II to build on its partner-focused approach while taking the action RPG somewhere well beyond its original setting.

More Reasons To Return

Mask of Idris isn’t just about heading into a new realm and beating up whatever happens to be waiting there.

Completing the expansion also unlocks alternate outfit colours for all 14 partners, including its two new characters. Previously unlocked partners can also be carried into Mask of Idris, even when restarting save data, giving returning players another reason to experiment with their favourite companions and customisation options.

There is one important catch, though. Mask of Idris is post-game content, meaning players can’t simply jump straight into the new adventure. To gain access you’ll need to reach the Luna Fraterna ending of CODE VEIN II and complete the Valentin’s request sub-mission before the new campaign becomes available.

A New Chapter For CODE VEIN II

The timing also comes with a free update, with Version 2.0 launching alongside Mask of Idris. The update adds further content intended to let players continue exploring the post-main-game world with their partners, with more details on those additions to follow.

It’s a fitting excuse to head back into CODE VEIN II, particularly if you’ve already worked your way through its main story.

We gave CODE VEIN II a 4.5/5 in our review, praising its ambitious approach despite some graphical issues. We found plenty to enjoy across its multiple timelines and ultimately had no hesitation recommending it, particularly to fans of the original or anyone looking for a way into the genre.

Now, with the Mask of Idris, there’s another timeline-shaped rabbit hole waiting to be explored. Just don’t expect the road to salvation to become any less dangerous.

How Do You Access Mask Of Idris?

Sold? Need the new content? There are a few ways of gaining access.

The easiest is to go and purchase the Ultimate Edition of the game. It costs £84.99, but includes Mask of Idris alongside a ton of other content pieces. There’s the Deluxe Edition too, running a little cheaper.

If you have the base game already and want to add Mask of Idris, you’ll need to grab the Deluxe Upgrade Pack. It costs £19.99 from the Xbox Store.
