The demons of the Three Kingdoms are preparing to return, with Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember confirmed for release in early 2027. KOEI TECMO Europe and Team NINJA have also revealed a new release date trailer, opened pre-orders and launched a limited-time Alpha Demo for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Xbox on PC and Steam.
Following the events of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, the sequel promises more intense action, expanded battlefields and a greater emphasis on movement and tactical decision-making. It will also launch on Nintendo Switch 2 and arrive on Xbox Game Pass from day one.

A Darker Chapter In The Three Kingdoms
Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember moves the story to China in 208 AD, following the events of the original game. The protagonist’s village is destroyed by Cao Cao’s forces as they advance towards Jing Province, leaving a trail of war and demonic destruction in their wake.
With revenge driving their journey, players will first clear a path for Liu Bei before joining Sun Quan in Jiangdong. There, the protagonist will reunite with Pang Tong as the pair work on a plan to resist Cao Cao’s ambitions and prepare for the pivotal Battle of the Red Cliffs.
The story will bring together familiar Three Kingdoms figures, alongside a new battle against demons inspired by legendary Chinese classics.
Faster Combat With New Tactical Options
Team NINJA is building on the fast-paced combat of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, combining offensive attacks and defensive manoeuvres with new abilities designed specifically for the sequel.
One of the key additions is the Insight Skills system. These skills allow players to evade incoming attacks, use the environment to their advantage and launch counterattacks. They can also help shift the momentum of a fight when the odds are stacked against you.
That should make encounters even more dynamic, particularly when facing groups of enemies or dealing with the more demanding threats found throughout the campaign. Timing, positioning and battlefield awareness will remain crucial to survival.
Explore Open Fields And Turn The Tide Of Battle
Wo Long 2 is also expanding the scale of its environments, introducing dynamic open fields based around major battles from the Three Kingdoms era.
Players will be able to explore locations inspired by the Battle of Changban and the Battle of the Red Cliffs, with environments ranging from mountain-carved fortresses to strongholds hidden within deep valleys.
Morale will once again play an important role, while enemy officers can be recruited to weaken opposing forces. Players will need to consider how they approach each battlefield, using different strategies to overcome overwhelming opposition.
Try The Alpha Demo Before September Ends
The free Alpha Demo is available now on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Xbox on PC and Steam, but only until 30th September 2026.
It offers an early look at the game, including an in-progress character creation system and online multiplayer for up to three players. The demo focuses on the open field of Changban, where players can join Liu Bei’s army and face Cao Cao’s pursuing forces.
Those who complete the demo will also receive the Fledgling Phoenix Helmet, which can be used in the full game.
Wo Long 2 Pre-Order Editions And Bonuses
Alongside the standard edition, Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember will be available in a Digital Deluxe Edition. This includes the base game, Season Pass and Creator God Armor Set Season Pass Bonus, alongside a Digital Artbook, Digital Mini Soundtrack and Shitieshou Hat.
Players purchasing the game in physical or digital format will receive the Harvest God Armor Set as an early purchase bonus. Those who pre-order digitally by 4th March 2027 will also receive the Creator Goddess Garb set.
Following our 4.5/5 review of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Complete Edition in 2024, there is plenty of reason to keep an eye on this sequel. We said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed playing through Wo Long again even though it is still tough, especially now that the online community is up, running and able to help.”
The original’s emphasis on timing, challenging encounters and co-op made a strong impression, and Wo Long 2 looks set to push those foundations further with its expanded environments and more acrobatic combat.
Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember launches on 4th March 2027 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox on PC and Steam. It will also be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one.
